Selmer Super Balanced Action Tenor Saxophone 54xxx
This tenor was manufactured toward the end of the SBA run so it is a bit of a transitional horn. It’s got that SBA vibe going for it, but definitely heralds the beginning of the Mark VI line. What does that mean? Well, I like to think that the SBA part is big and fat and crazy-good in the palm keys. And the Mark VI part is the perfect blend of easy-to-play ergonomics and a linear quality that is pure joy.
Even though this instrument was re-lacquered, it is beautiful and I’d rate it at 95% cosmetically. It has all of the original Selmer Tone-X resonators, except in the palm keys, but I’ll be able to match them closely with aftermarket copies. The neck is in great shape and its serial number matches the body tube. The Selmer stamp on the bell is perfect and I love the American engraving that covers the bell and bow. This horn will need to be rebuilt as the pads are shot, but there’s tremendous potential in this SBA. Talk with me about a complete overhaul. It will come with a Protec case or can be upgraded to the case of your choice.
